The Chosen Path..

About 5 years ago someone asked me:
“Tell me about Muslims in Russia(Volgograd), are they many of them?”
I (ignorantly) answered:
“There’s quite a lot of them, but even when they say they’re Muslims, some that I know don’t even pray, and drink alcohol..”
He said:
“Saying that they are Muslims, is actually good enough”
And those words made me ponder.. “What’s so hard about it?”
That was before I met Muhammad(1), Salma (2), Mahdi(3), Uwais (4) and many others, and my world view was as narrow as a needle.
Their stories taught me how lucky I was to be born a Muslim, in a country where Muslims are the majority. They also taught me and others here that Islam is the Deen that is not just followed (because we’re born in it) but are searched and chosen to be our way of life.
Many of Malaysian Muslims here ,whether we realize it or not, have been influenced by their experiences and started our own journey to be like them, who chose to be Muslims because it’s the only 1 true religion. Our paths may be different, but our aim is the same.
InsyaAllah, 1 day we’ll all be as strong and confident as they are when we say “I’m a Muslim”
If I am to be asked again by him(5).. my answer will be different…
Wallahualam..
1-Muhammad is in his 30’s, he started his path by reading a Hadith collections.
2-A.k.a. Anna learnt about Islam from Hamid, who is now her husband. Read her story here.
3-A.k.a. Vitaly, interested in Islam from his youth(he lives in a city that have many Muslims ), 1 of the 1st Russian I know who converted to Islam.
4-A Chechen who told us his how difficult it was to learn Islam when Russia was a Socialist country. Even learning the Quran was a dangerous thing to do.
5-Tuan Guru Dato’ Nik Abdul Aziz.
In Kelantanese what we said was:
“Guano ore Isle di Rusia, rama ko?”
“Rama jugok, tapi ngaku jah Isle tapi tak smaye, minum arak”
“Demo tu ngaku Isle pun mujo bena doh..”
